From: RichA on 18 May 2010 23:19 This lemon really does seem to be the odd man out in the Nikon line- up. The D5000 is far better. Did Nikon have some CCDs left over and had to use them up? Seems like the D40/40x got much better reviews and they came before the D3000.

Like every other manufacturer's entry-level DSLR, it's kind of ... .... entry-level.

The D5000 is far better. The D5000 is considerably more expensive. No, the D3000 is certainly not "a piece of junk." I recently added one to my Nikon collection and I love it. > Did Nikon have some CCDs left over and > had to use them up? The D3000 is just the latest member of the D40/D40X/D60 family, essentially a replacement for the original D40 which had grown a bit long in the tooth. Anyone who liked the D40 should love the D3000 since it's a better camera in every way. Higher resolution, much improved AF arrangement, a number of other detail improvements, and the kit lens is even better than the original 18-55 and is now VR.
