I got the new keyboard today - the aluminium Apple Extended one.

OK, I like it. Not as bad as I was expecting. Indeed, it feels really
slick to use. I'm glad I didn't use the MacBook keyboard as a benchmark,
it's quite clear how different they are now. - there's about two extra
keys of width on the external keyboard.

Having tried some of the third party stuff now, it is quite clear that
Apple do seem to know more or less what they're doing as far as
ergonomics goes.
