For the past 24 hours every time I boot up my Powerbook (1.67, 15in,
Leopard), the sound control doesn't work and there is no sound until I
re-boot and reset PRAM. Obviously something is amiss, but what. Any
suggestions? Could it be that some hardware is on its way out? As I
say, this happens every time.

For what it is worth ...
My G4TiBook will not produce any sound, even the startup chime, if the
volume is set to maximum. Reduce it by one notch and sound is back to
normal. Try it.
