From: Frederick R. Hutchings on 13 Feb 2010 21:36 I can reach all 3 of the websites that you mentioned. They don't, however, offer an automated way to get Office 2000 updates. WinXP SP3 with IE8. Norton Internet Security 2010 and it is current. No anti-spyware. I'm using NIS' firewall. No other Norton or McAfee applications were ever installed. Have you been able to access http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/ yourself? From: PA Bear [MS MVP] on 14 Feb 2010 01:46 With the demise of Office Update website in Aug-09, there is no automated way to update Office 2000. From: Frederick R. Hutchings on 15 Feb 2010 17:15 I was finally able to access that page on another computer, too, but, as you said, it's not set up to offer all the updates for Office 2000. Sorry if I misunderstood. Yes I upgraded from NIS 2009. I think I turned Norton off when I installed IE8 and SP3, but I'm not sure. I suspect that the computer that can't access http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/ is having trouble with the ActiveX control and I don't see a way to remove it. Norton (and McAfee) applications are notorious for not upgrading (or uninstalling) cleanly. Try the following: 1. Download the Norton Removal Tool, saving it to your desktop: ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/removal_tools/Norton_Removal_Tool.exe 2. Close any open applications (i.e., anything with an icon on the taskbar). 3. After making certain you have a copy of your Product Key handy, uninstall Norton Internet Security, LiveUpdate & any Norton Add-ons via Add/Remove Programs and reboot. 4. IMPORTANT! => Enable the Windows Firewall immediately after rebooting. NB: You're "working without a net" now: Don't to ANYTHING else online (e.g., browsing; reading email; chatting) until you've completed Step #7 below! 5. Double-click on the file you saved in #1 above to run the utility. Don't TOUCH your keyboard until the run completes, then reboot. 6. Do a clean install of NIS 2010 using your Product ID & reboot: http://www.symantec.com/norton/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&docurl=20080514162318EN TIP: Do not enable or install any Norton Add-ons (e.g., Norton Anti-Phishing) just yet. 7. Manually and repeatedly run LiveUpdate until you get a "no more updates" prompt. 8. Test accessing, etc., http://catalog.update.microsoft.com now. Frederick R.
