I just bought the Home & Student Edition of Office 2008. The install
tells me to enter my "25-character product key" which it supposedly
"located on both the back of the Office 2008 for Mac DVD sleeve and the
Install Guide." It's *not* in the Install Guide (but there is a form so
you can fill it in yourself when you eventually find it). The DVD sleeve
has a UPC code and two other numbers, none of which works when I type it
into the installation window. The top number has 22 characters and the
bottom one has 21. If you count hyphens, it's 26 and 24. If someone else
who has gone through this can help me, I would very much appreciate it!

I took advantage of the free upgrade from "Office 2004 Student & Teacher
Edition" to "Office 2008 Special Media Edition". I just recieved my copy
last week, and the label on the DVD sleeve says "PRODUCT KEY:" in bold
letters, with a 25-character code just under that in this format:

HF3J8-HKNMG-FH84K-KE9N2-KBYEH

That is 25 characters, minus the dashes.

I've included the microsoft.public.mac.office news group in my reply so
that other users of Office 2008 may comment, but it sounds like your
best bet may be to call Microsoft directly.

Just in case anyone was wondering, the code above is *not* an actual
code, but merely random letters and numbers generated by yours truly.

Don't be too hard on yourself. Remember: It's Microsoft. They are
well known to write their own rules, such as what is a "sleeve".

Assuming it worked for you, you're welcome.

Hey! We're Mac users. We don need no steenkin' manuals!

Oddly enough, it works fine for the copy of Office I grabbed off
Bittorrent. You should go into the generating product key business.
