From: Tom C on 13 Mar 2010 18:03 The header says it all. I tried a "patch" or converter I found on the Microsoft web site and installed it, but I get errors that there is not enough memory to open the application. The particular file I am trying to open is an excel file created using a beta copy of MS Office 2010. Office 2003 is a certified, activated, registered release. Is there a file converter for this or do I just have to wait until Microsoft comes out with the final release? Really, I wish there would be SOME backward compatibility with Microsoft's Office products. It seems that whenever there is a new version, we have to upgrade or we can't open documents sent to our offices just because somebody spent the money to upgrade their versions. This is getting crazy!

There is, but when you install and use beta software on a production computer and use it for real work, you're playing digital Russian roulette. Beta software isn't done. You have to accept that there will be incompatibilities and problems. If you can't, you really shouldn't install it. Not to say that it'll be perfect when it's released, but at least you'll get more sympathy from MS. <g> > It seems that whenever there is a new version, we have to > upgrade or we can't open documents sent to our offices just because somebody > spent the money to upgrade their versions. This is getting crazy! You spent money to upgrade to the beta?

This is getting > crazy! Tom, To be correct, your subject line describes forward compatibility, not backward compatibility. You are trying to open a document that was created by a version after the one you are using to open it. Backward compatibility would be using Office 2010 to open a document created by Office 2003. Otherwise, I have to agree with Steve's sentiments. In addition, you are whining about a problem you assume is a Microsoft issue. Maybe this memory problem you are having is a problem with YOUR computer ?
