As an example (one of!) the reasons they won't do this is that they STILL have vast numbers of OVP Virgin customers (even though that tarriff have been on "legacy" status for many years) - including me! - and they do NOT want those customers to be able to use this tarriff with 3G! There are probably other examples!

O2 (whose CS is almost as bad) volunteered to send out a new 3G SIM when I queried why some feature did not work properly - "oh you've got a very old SIM" (indeed about 10yo). All PAYG SIMs I believe are now 3G and when I ordered a consumer SIM only from the website a few months ago that was 3G but whether that was luck I don't know?
