From: John Walliker on 28 Jun 2010 08:05 I recently changed tariff from Orange Talk60 to "Business SIM Only". The upgrade went fine until I asked for a 3G SIM. Customer services were happy to send me a new 2G SIM (to increase my phonebook capacity), but they insisted that it was impossible for me to be sent a 3G one because my last handset had been a 2G one. (True, I haven't had a handset upgrade from Orange for over 10 years as I have access to handsets from other sources.) They suggested a workaround: switch to PAYG for 3 months, then open a new SIM Only account and transfer the number. Unfortunately it would not be possible to keep my "loyalty bonus". I then asked whether it would be possible to keep the number, "loyalty bonus" and get 3G access by switching to a bundled tariff like Business Solo and getting a new 3G phone. Yes, that would be fine, and then in 18 months or 2 years I could switch back to SIM Only again. This seems like madness. Why should I have to get a new phone that I don't need just to enable access to parts of the network that will allow me to use data more quickly and perhaps generate more revenue for Orange? (BTW - the staff I spoke to about this at Business Customer Services were at all times helpful and polite and I did go ahead with the upgrade to SIM Only and got a new 2G SIM. It just seems that the "system" does not allow this obvious upgrade to 3G.) Is anyone from Orange listening? Surely there must be a way of overcoming this artificial limitation? John

If you speak to the right person they'll do it for you and you'll get one - I advise you ring CS again. I see no reason why they don't give everyone a 3G SIM. All PAYG SIMs I believe are now 3G and when I ordered a consumer SIM only from the website a few months ago that was 3G but whether that was luck I don't know?

If I wanted a completely new Business SIM Only then I would get 3G. The problem is with upgrading an existing account to 3G and preserving the number and loyalty bonus. John

One can only hope that now they call themselves "Everything Everywhere" T Mobile will push FT Orange management out the top window of one of their high buildings. But my money's on it being the otherway around and they'll become Nothing Anywhere. Steve Terry -- Welcome Sign-up Bonus of 1 when you signup free at: http://www.topcashback.co.uk/ref/G4WWK

I have been looking into this, as my 3G LG phone (bought off Ebay) won't connect to Orange 3G when asked to do so manually, it will work on 3G overseas so I don't believe there's such a thing as a "3G SIM" they just aren't putting the old SIM numbers into the acceptable connection database of the 3G kit.
