Official announcement is imminent.

It's a Beta, folks. Use at your own risk. Report bugs back to the
Developers.

I took a look at it and can't believe they made the PCC configuration
tool even better. It looks like they combined Kcontrol from KDE 3 with the
old PCC tool. One stop for all the settings.Windows users could only dream
of such a thing.
ps.I got it from the Ibiblio site, much faster, the GATech mirror had a bad
ISO,only 560 mb.

It used to be my favorite dist, but after all the fights and
the split-up it was +- abandoned, and I switched to ubuntu. The main
advantage (to me at least) was that you could install a very minimal
image and then download exactly what you needed with the package
manager. Make it exactly the way you want it.
I'm stuck with ubuntu 9.10 on my laptop, because it's the
last version to support SIS 671/672 video drivers. Any idea if
PCLinuxOS will have support for this chipset ? I find ubuntu too
intrusive....

Can't say. How do you know that v10.04 won't support your graphics? Once
it's in the kernel, it shouldn't go away, unless there's some decision
made upstream by the Debian purists. Even then, many distros will put
support back in. The Maestro sound on my antique laptop was once such
example -- it had been pulled from Lenny for "purity" reasons, but
Warren put it back during the runup to MEPIS 8 once I told him about it.

Personally, I prefer KDE to Gnome, but have never cared for Kubuntu, so
I gravitated toward other Debian-based KDE-centric distros and settled
on MEPIS. However, PCLinuxOS has always been (IMO) a worthy second,
despite it's rpm base. (Using apt/Synaptic makes a big difference.)

KDE 4 is a big transition, too. I'm not nearly as comfortable with it as
I am with KDE 3, but that's to be expected. The new PCLinuxOS uses KDE
4, as does the soon-to-be-released MEPIS 8.5. I'll be beta testing and
experimenting with both, but will be sticking the MEPIS 8 and KDE 3.5.10
for the foreseeable future.
