From: RichA on 26 Feb 2010 00:38 I'd say yes, recent tests on the Panleica 45mm macro confirms it. It costs over $1000 and yet it is blown away performance-wise by the recent Canon 100mm. In addition, the kit lenses for the Panasonic are not great lenses (especially the 45-200mm) and they cost over $300 each, which is huge for slow kit lenses. I'd say the field is ripe for some outfit like Sigma to cash-in.
From: Dimitris M on 26 Feb 2010 12:17 I think 4:3 lenses are overpriced in general. Some of them use the new technology that corrects lens imperfections after shoot, in the camera processing (something similar to the DxO by modeling lens correction). That way, a mediocre lens can produce much better final picture. So, Olympus and Panasonic seems that choose the price not only by the cost and quality of the lens, but from the final result produced from the software. With this technology, they can disappoint any 3rd manufacturer from build lens for their cameras, as their lenses even if is better, they will produce worst results. I may be wrong (I wll be happy if I am wrong) but I thing that Panasonic and Olympus does not have this "interface" open to 3rd manufacturers. -- Dimitris M > > I'd say yes, recent tests on the Panleica 45mm macro confirms it.
