Just as an FYI, UnRarX is also significantly faster than MacPAR Deluxe
(I had the same perception as you, so I tested it). Not only does it
verify more quickly, but it unrars a lot faster (about 4x on a couple
of 400MB archives I tried).

MacPAR Deluxe does have some advantages, though -- it will check/rename
as necessary without you having to do anything special. MPD also has
default options for deleting PAR/PAR2 files (and rar volumes) after
successful repair and/or unraring operations. Additionally, it passes
off to helper files automatically for decompression and extraction
(ZIP, SIT, etc.)

I use the commandline tools, sometimes, UnRarX most frequently, and
MacPAR Deluxe, sometimes. Why restrict yourself to just one tool?
