MS-7309 is an MSI K9N6PGM2, which has an Nforce 6150SE
chipset. That would make it post-2003 vintage and
the BIOS should have any 48 bit LBA support necessary.

The OS on May 31st was SP3.

Version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3 Build 2600

It's possible the Windows installer CD is not slipstreamed
up to SP3, and by using the older installer CD, that installer
restricts partition size to the 28 bit LBA limit. If the Service
Pack 3 was slipstreamed into the installer CD, it's possible the
whole disk could be used for C: by the installer.
