which is my point. if they screw up the simple stuff, how do you know
they won't screw up the complicated stuff?

unless you can get access to the parts that are off limits, such as
being able to modify the hosts file to do ad blocking, there isn't a
whole lot of use for it.

I get the impression they were simply too lazy to make a Mac-specific
version of the document.

Same here. I've had it installed ever since I jail broke my iPhone 3G,
but have never really needed it. (It's never caused problems, either.)

If you want to access the entire file system, you simply need to jail
break the device, which is not all that hard to do.
