well... just wanted to let you know
that I had added my email to the Quicken support area
looking for a resolution to the Quicken 2009 R7 patching error.

Received an email today from Quicken -
that basically said......
remove/un-install Quicken
and then download & re-install via one of the internal links provided.

Just took a chance with only doing the re-install -
and clicked the download for Q2009 deluxe,
which was a 72meg EXE download.

Then ran the EXE which first un-installed my current Q2009,
and then re-installed Q2009.
Not sure if the R7 patch was included in the downloaded image,
or was later brought down via the update process.

Anyway - it didn't seem to break anything new,
and now Q2009 + R7 is installed.

I went through their suggested steps. LOTTSA steps, LOTTSA time.

Works OK, but had to redo some of my settings.

Suggestions:

1. Be SURE to backup before starting, preferably to a new folder or
offline, since it would be relatively easy to shoot oneself in the foot.

2. If you're not confident playing with computers and software and have
techie type friends or relatives, have them do it.

3. You might want to monitor this newsgroup a few days before doing it
to see if anything nasty develops.

It stinks that Intuit is making us re-install. It should not be this way.
How can they make such a stupid mistake as this? Too busy worrying about
Q2010 no doubt.

I will wait to see if they come up with any other solution.

I just thought about what they were attempting to do...
ie - to re-install a version of Quicken.

#1 -
OK - backup my C:/Quicken_files - where all my data was stored.
easy... just did a quick copy of the entire folder to my Desktop.

#2 -
Next - a choice - do a manual un-install, or just try the downloaded EXE
and see if it would "overwrite" everything....
if not, could always go back, and walk thru the steps.
It actually performed the un-install first, and then the install.

#3 -
So, I just used the single downloaded Q2009DLX.EXE (deluxe version for me)
and everything worked just fine.

I didn't download either of the other suggested Cleanup or MSIzap files,
just the correct version of the Q2009xxx.EXE file.

However, YMMV -

Agreed - having been around software for decades,
I've fired a few folks for "playing" with things,
without regard to QC, regression testing, and customer beta.

But hey - at least we still have a desktop product,
even though they keep chopping it up to go "online"
with respect to the entire investment area with quotes, news, charts, etc -
