I d'loaded the same "hiqh quality" clip, and it plays fine in QT 7.6.4; info tells me it's using the Xiph Theora Decoder. I have that component in ~/Library/Quicktime. It does have to load first, though, but this happens quickly. QuickView works fine too. -- Very old woody beets will never cook tender. -- Fannie Farmer

I don't know, I don't have QuickTime Player 7. Can it co-exist happily with QuickTime Player 10? Ian -- Ian Gregory http://www.zenatode.org.uk/

I have that component > in ~/Library/Quicktime. I Installed QuickTime Player 7 from my Snow Leopard DVD (after installation I couldn't see it in /Applications along with QuickTime Player X, but found it in /Applications/Utilities). When I opened the troublesome OGV file in Player 7 it played fine, I then confirmed that it still does not play in Player X. As I said before, when I attempt to open it in Player X it just displays "Loading Movie..." - info tells me it is playing the file using the Theora Decoder but nothing happens (I left it "loading" on one occasion for about half an hour). To test whether it was a problem with the specific movie file I downloaded another OGV (A 1933 Betty Boop cartoon featuring Cab Calloway and his orchestra) and I observed the same behaviour. My conclusion is that the new QuickTime library handles OGV just fine provided you install the XiphQT component (which is how Quick Look can play it) but if you want to open it in QuickTime Player you have to use the old version 7. I wonder if Apple is planning to fix this? Ian -- Ian Gregory http://www.zenatode.org.uk/ |
