From: Bitzer on 20 Apr 2010 13:56 Running SL 10.6.3 on a 21.5" iMac. When my Time Machine USB drive (Samsung S2 640 GB) is attached either directly to the computer or to a powered hub, the computer hangs at the white screen (no Apple logo) and won't cold boot until I unplug the drive at which point it boots normally. I've tried different USB jacks on the computer and a different cable without success. There is another USB drive and a flash drive attached to the hub. Plugging/unplugging them makes no difference-- and System Preference shows the Mac HD as the startup drive. Interestingly, the iMac will boot normally on a restart however with the Time Machine drive attached. Other Macs cold boot normally with that same USB drive attached. Ideas-- other than unplugging the drive before every cold boot?

No ideas on this one, eh?

I'll do a normal boot-- and an abnormal one, print out the log and take it over to the service people at the Apple store.

I would examine the system log to look for messages with a time stamp that matches the time you booted and had the problem. -- Send responses to the relevant news group rather than email to me.
