So I finally decided to see what I can do with QT X player. I am
running OS X 10.6.2 on a late 2009 iMac. I clicked on the
QuickTime Player.app in the Apps folder. All it does is put an
icon on the dock.

What do I need to do to get the actual player to launch?

Would you mind posting what exactly you figured out, so the next person
to have the same question will know??

Being a former Windows OS user, I expected the actual player to
launch... which it does not. My eyes were not focused on the
toolbar and as I clicked somewhere else the Quicktime toolbar
would disappear before I would see it.
Newbie blues.
