OK, slightly rude of me following up my own posts, configuring slack64 for
multilib support fixed it, along of with David Allen's suggestion. Bit of a
nuisance that Brother have not provided 64 bit drivers.

The only thing rude would be not posting your solution in detail so
others and future slackers could not learn your triumph from google groups
or other web archives. Please, elaborate. Thank you

You are completely right. I intend to update the webpage I have put up on
the subject to account for my recent experiences. (just hoping I can find
the password for it again...)
