I've had to follow the same pattern on some old HP LH3 Servers that had an internal SCSI Tape Drive. It kept detecting the Tape Drive as if it was a HD and kept screwing up the intallation. so we just unpluged the Tape Drive,..did the install,...plug the Tape Drive back in.
