From: SC Tom on 28 Mar 2010 13:37 A quick Google shows this filename has been around since at least 2007. Most seem to think it's associated with installation or running programs. Few seem to think it's malware. You can try MalwareBytes http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php and SuperAntiSpyware http://www.superantispyware.com/download.html and see if they find anything. -- SC Tom "Englebert" <bogusenglebert(a)purgatory.net> wrote in message news:OWtlQ5mzKHA.4384(a)TK2MSFTNGP06.phx.gbl... > SC Tom, > > I don't have the Mathcad disk anymore so I cannot try your first > suggestion. From: Englebert on 28 Mar 2010 14:40 SC Tom, Yes, thanks. I too searched the web and, for what it's worth, found the following post on Tech Support Guy Forums "the temp file in question is a digital rights management program from a company called Macrovision they are the people who make the installer wizard that microsoft uses to install its programs the file is some kind of clean up file that checks to make sure you are using a legal copy of the program but for some reason it is causing major disruptions in all sorts of programs especially games.". My AV provider (Norton BTW) might be erring on the side of caution on this one (as they should). This symptom only surfaced after I tried to install Office 2007 and failed to uninstall Office 2000 so I'm pretty suspicious that process had something to do with it. I think my next step is to learn exactly what Windows does when it opens a program. From: SC Tom on 28 Mar 2010 16:45 Have you tried deleting the file? Is it recreated later? If it'd protected and won't let you delete it, you can use something like KillBox to get rid of it. I saw that same post. The only real solution I can think of is if you could borrow an Office2000 disk set, reinstall it, then uninstall it completely. -- SC Tom "Englebert" <bogusenglebert(a)purgatory.net> wrote in message news:ejJYYYqzKHA.4384(a)TK2MSFTNGP06.phx.gbl... > SC Tom, > > Yes, thanks. From: Englebert on 28 Mar 2010 18:58 SC Tom, Yes, I'm looking into acquiring an Office 2000 CD (suggested on another forum BTW). My AV program quarantines the file and a new one is generated each time I try to open Mathcad (which then gets quarantined). I'd still like to know what steps Windows takes to open a program though. Anyway thanks for all your suggestions. "SC Tom" <sc(a)tom.net> wrote in message news:uUkFMerzKHA.6112(a)TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl... > Have you tried deleting the file? Is it recreated later?
