From: hilde on 2 Feb 2010 18:34 Hi all, I have a customer I support where I have had to restore the whole SBS 2k3 box 2x over the course of 6 years (I deployed it originally back in 2004). It is now at SP1. The STS intranet site (companyweb) isn't working right - not sure if it ever did after either of the restores (they never used it). It DID work upon initial install (SP0). I can get to http://localhost but not http://companyweb. I can't get to any of the STS sites to customize. I've tried reinstalls w/ original disk 3, no luck. I've tried reinstalls w/ 'updated' disk 3; no luck. I've tried reinstalls w/ SBS Sp1 reinstall; no luck. I did/tried/reviewed 829114, 832880, 827701 Each time I try to reinstall, I never get a MSSQL$SHAREPOINT folder; nothing under \inetpub\...\companyweb. The registry entries are partially populated after each reinstall attempt. It looks like it 'finds' something left over and just ends. Originally, I had MSSQL$SHAREPOINT on the F:\ drive; I've tried renaming that dir, etc. I read somewhere that can cause some issues w/ resintalls. Any advice? I don't have anything I need to recover in terms of customizations or existing data, I just want to get it back to 'square one' and working again so I can work w/ customer to put data out there. thx.
From: Larry Struckmeyer[SBS-MVP] on 3 Feb 2010 07:13 Before a long trouble shooting process with this installation, have you tried to install SBS on alternate hw using the media you have? Have you looked through the setup log files after attempting the reinstall. Might be beneficial to find the logs pertaining to SP and rename them as they are bound to be long and complex at this point, and run the setup/unistall/reinstall from Add/Remove and see what the logs tell you then. - Larry Please post the resolution to your issue so others may benefit - Get Your SBS Health Check at www.sbsbpa.com > Hi all, > > I have a customer I support where I have had to restore the whole SBS > 2k3 box 2x over the course of 6 years (I deployed it originally back > in 2004). From: hilde on 4 Feb 2010 16:58 I'll give that a try to get a clear set of logs. Any super-duty steps to try if the add/remove fails again? I've tried it several times w/out any luck w/ original media and 'updated' STS dir on disk #3. Tried applying KB patches mentioned below as well as reinstall of SBS SP1. Thx.
