When I select reminder and close and save I get an error message saying the
folder doesn't support reminders. How can I get it in the right folder.

Try starting Outlook once with the /cleanremiders command switch.
Start>Run (or Search)>outlook.exe /cleanreminders
Be sure to include the space after ".exe".

The event must be in your default Calendar.
