From: magnat_pvl on 9 Nov 2009 08:14 Specific application: end 80's Lotus Symphony 2 under Dos. Using newly found "EMS Magic", I was able to run Sym2 on my laptop. That was great. But it opens in full window AND not only hides the windows of running programs under Windows XP but it also seems to deactivate them (tried extended desktop with no success). ALT Return is of no use. That makes me still need two computers, one for XP applications and one for Sym2, and that is exactly what I wish to stop. Any good tip would be appreciated. Thanks. Pierre. -- magnat_pvl
From: Tim Meddick on 9 Nov 2009 15:45 Just one of the many unfortunate "quirks" of Windows XP is that on expanding a DOS window to "full-screen" you cannot then restore the DOS-box to it's original size (on all of the machines that I've used, anyway). Making an attempt to restore the DOS-box to it's original size and you get a blank screen In other words - once you "full-screen" a DOS-box, you can't get out of it again. Alt-ENTER which SHOULD get it to swap between full-screen and restored modes, gets you a completely black screen, from which, one cannot navigate. The only way I have found to recover from this without re-booting, is to get the PC into suspend-mode and then restore full power again - this re-initializes the video adaptor and gets you your screen back. This is harder to do than it sounds - I have a shortcut made on the desktop that sends the PC into hibernation (accomplishes the same thing) and set the shortcut to have a key-combination to activate it with a simple Shift+Ctrl+H key-press. == Cheers, Tim Meddick, Peckham, London. :-) P.S. To make a shortcut to send the PC into hibernation mode from the desktop - use the following line as the target for the shortcut : RUNDLL32.EXE PowrProf.dll,SetSuspendState "magnat_pvl" <magnat_pvl.53dcf17(a)pcbanter.net> wrote in message news:magnat_pvl.53dcf17(a)pcbanter.net... > > Specific application: end 80's Lotus Symphony 2 under Dos. > > Using newly found "EMS Magic", I was able to run Sym2 on my laptop. > That was great. > > But it opens in full window AND not only hides the windows of running > programs under Windows XP but it also seems to deactivate them (tried > extended desktop with no success). > > ALT Return is of no use. > > That makes me still need two computers, one for XP applications and one > for Sym2, and that is exactly what I wish to stop. > > Any good tip would be appreciated. > Thanks.
