Off the top of my head, the more obvious titles to watch out for are: Lurton: An Introduction to Underwater Acoustics. Might be somewhat off-topic with respect to your stated field of interest, but essential to understand the main applications of underwater acoustics. Even if you are involved in underwater comms, I would be very surprised if the intended application of your comm system is not described somewhere in this book. If you only buy one book on underwater acustics, ever, let it be this one. Urick: Principles of Underwater Sound. A classic, and a standard reference you can not do without if you work with underwater acoustics. Jensen & al: Computational Ocean Acoustics. Focuses on developing computer models to simulate propagation in the underwater channel. Works through the large-scale physics that messes up the big picture. Does, however, miss the fast small-scale dynamics that tend to make life really difficult (not to mention miserable...) at sea. Waite: Sonar for Practicing Engineers. One of few (the only?) text that describe how *actually* fielded systems *actually* work, and the principles they are based on. Maybe a bit simplistic, but unique coverage. Nielsen: Sonar Signal Processing. Attempts to bridge the gap between the practical/operational side, and more computationally expensive algorithms. Was published at a time (1991) when significant computational power started to become available and economically feasible outside the highly specialized professional and technical communities. Burdic: Underwater Acoustic System Analysis. Focuses on the more special-purpose types of systems. Hard to get by, but a standard reference on system analysis. Then there are the books by Bendat, either alone or with Piersol. All three are very useful for practical work. Rune

Etter, I have the pdf file of that book. If anybody needs it, just send me an email. I also saw your thread http://www.dsprelated.com/showmessage/22167/1.php Still work on this topic? Chintan

Not on the ocean waveguide as such, but on sonar data processing. Have worked offshore for some time, and suffice it to say that there is ample opportunity for somebody who knows his craft to make a huge impact on real-time data processing capabilities. Time will tell if I know my craft well enough to make such an impact. Initial results are promising, though. Rune

I just told my friend, that if somebody can design a working system for underwater, u can guarante it will work for RF. If you do not mind, can I have your email id?? Thanks again. Chintan |
