It is still a licensed OS. If you're going to start giving out OSes for free, what's next Win95, Win98? Why not NT4, that's old too? See the issue? MS isn't going to ok this. Plus, this isn't the place to get or expect offical announcements or official answers from MS, they (the MS employees that post here) have said as much before. -- Cheers, Steve Jain, Virtual Machine MVP http://vpc.essjae.com/ I do not work for Microsoft.
From: augustus_meyer on 16 Sep 2006 09:30 I am running an old Basic app in a DOS-VPC, XP as host. Had heavy CPU-load, 50% on a P4, 3GHz, in the beginning ! Found out, that old Basic program simply looped when waiting for keyboard input, for example. DOS-app did not expect another program to run on same PC. That was fine when DOS-Basic was only program on the original DOS-PC, not good, when sharing CPU with XP-host because of VPC. Had to modify the Basic sources, to implement real WAIT (for interrrupt). Now it works fine. Just to warn you. From: Mark Harby on 21 Sep 2006 05:58 Mark Many thanks for coming back on this, sorry I didn't replay earlier but been away for a couple of weeks. I followed youe recommendations on booting from the boot622.ima image and all works fine. However, when I try to install the MS-DOS 6.22 disks from Microsoft (it's an upgrade even though it says otherwise), I get disk read and then failure errors. I am using a USB floppy on a laptop which seems to work ok until you try and do anything. I think I will have to read up through these newsgroups on making an image from the source disks that I can install from. Thanks again.
