I just purchased SBS 2008 licenses from reseller CDW. I mistakenly did not
purchase any SBS DVD media. I called Microsoft's eopen team and it's not
possible to download SBS 2007 from the eopen site but they're sending the
media, which as I understand it will contain the DVDs and the license key for
them. I have a deadline and prefer not to wait until the DVDs arrive to
start the installation. Is it possible to do the following?

1. Download the SBS 2008 Premium trial from Microsoft's web site and install
it in trial mode without entering a license key.
2. When the media and license key arrives, input the license key and
activate it without doing a full reinstallation. Note that the licenses and
purchased are Standard (the trial version is premium per the MS web site).

Could you please respond if you've done this?

Thanks!

The best idea would be to call Microsoft and ask. However the only difference
between Premium and Standard is that in Premium you receive another DVD with
Windows Server 2008 and one more with Sql Server 2008 (plus Sql Server 2005 -
if you would like to downgrade). So the first DVD (SBS 2008) is the same in
Premium and Standards version.

With kind regards

Yes you can download from the eval site.
Yes you can install it without a key.
Yes you can then key it later.
Yes I've done it.

I'll bet they wouldn't know the answer and they are probably closed on
the weekend.
