From: 8fold on 20 Apr 2010 01:55 Could someone please recommend us what would be good solution for us as we need to decide between SBS08 and Window 2008+ virtual TS. All we need to is AD, shared folder, access to application from outside. We don't need email server, fax server, or share point. Price wise Windows 08 (for AD + Virual Host) and another Windows 08 (for virutal Guest) to run TS seem to be cheaper than SBS08 Premium. One IT company has given us a quote and the difference on setup charge between SBS08 premium and Window 08 with Virtual TS is about $1000. Should we go for SBS08 or Window08 with TS, or could someone suggest any better alternative to achive the same thing.
From: Charlie Russel - MVP on 20 Apr 2010 10:19 SBS is a complete solution that includes quite a bit beyond what is included in Server alone. And even if you opt not to use Exchange now, you have the option of moving to it later without incurring additional expense. Plus you may find your ongoing management costs reduced with SBS, since it includes WSUS to keep your network fully patched and up to date, plus wizards to simplify adding computers, managing who has access, etc. You certainly could create a simple domain network with two servers, one of which is your domain controller and one of which is your Terminal Server, including the TS RemoteApp, TS Gateway, TS Licensing, and TS Web Access role services. If you choose to go the standalone product route, I would strongly recommend choosing Server 2008 R2, since you have additional capabilities with the RDS services (the new name for Terminal Services starting with R2.) -- Charlie. http://msmvps.com/blogs/russel "8fold" <8fold(a)discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:E94A1329-4A40-4B9D-8AC8-B03D00365B66(a)microsoft.com... > Could someone please recommend us what would be good solution for us as we > need to decide between SBS08 and Window 2008+ virtual TS.
