We newly installed an SBS2008 and we have about 20 client pc's.

About 18 clients are Winxp machines with all the updates and SP3 on them. We
have redirect folders (CSC) on "My documents" and when we boot the XP
machines they try to sync the files to the Server.
The sync then fails and an popup will showup that ""The network connectoin"
is gone ;-(
If this message show up I can not reach the server anymore through the UNC
name (\\SERVER\DATA) but through the IP adress (\\192.168.200.2\DATA) it
works.
When klicking through the network share we see also hickups (opening an
directory takes 5 to 10 seconds).

When you click the sync icon (near the clock with an yellow "!" in it) the
share will sometimes come back.

I also made an Ethereal trace and I see some SMB error like this:
"1395 202.191387 192.168.200.2 192.168.200.59 SMB Trans2 Response,
QUERY_PATH_INFO, Error: STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED"

or:
"1713 203.762138 192.168.200.59 192.168.200.2 SMB Trans2 Request,
GET_DFS_REFERRAL, File: \serverxxx.local\SysVol"
"1714 203.762144 192.168.200.2 192.168.200.59 SMB Trans2 Response,
GET_DFS_REFERRAL, Error: STATUS_NO_SUCH_DEVICE"

Internet and Outlook (Exchange) work like a charm.

Can anybody please help me, the users cannot work with the network share
because they come and go!

Initial guess is it sounds like a DNS issue.

1) Run the SBS BPA to make sure your server doesn't have any significant
issues.
2) Post an ipconfig /all from a client machine and the server.
