Is there any easy way to change the contrast of the display in Safari?

Google maps is almost unusuable on may Powerbook using Safari because it
renders the city blocks in such a light grey that it is almost invisible
against the white roads.

Certain highlighted text on certain web sites is also much easier to view
using other web browsers other than Safari because of the contrast (very
light blue vs. a much darker blue). However, I would really prefer to use
Safari if I could get the contrast to the point where I could see things a
bit better.

I also notice this same problem in comparing iCab to Internet Explorer on
a certain older PowerBook I have used. iCab also renders graphics with a
much lower contrast than Explorer does on the same computer with the same
hardware and settings.

it's systemwide - system preferences, universal access pref, seeing
tab, enhance contrast slider.

that could be a colour profile difference.

This difference should be showing up on many other machines.
Perhaps poor calibration of OP screen or else simply poor screen.
You can override default browser style sheets and the author of
the page's too.

Here's a screen shot I took of Firefox and Safari, side by side for
comparison (Firefox is on the left, Safari on the right):

I can see no difference. Both seem legible enough for me.

You're saying you actually see a difference?

Can you take a screen shot of a Safari window showing Google Maps on
your screen next to another more well-behaved browser so that we can see
the difference you are describing?

(To take a screen shot, press these keys simultaneously on your
keyboard: Command-Shift-3. To post it online where we can see it, go to

Link" and paste it into a reply to this message.)

I examined both screenshots with DigitalColor Meter and got identical
readings, checking gray areas, streets, interstate, water....
