My wife's iMac G5 with 10.5.8 and Safari 4.0.4 has developed an odd
behavior.

Yesterday she called me over because there was a pop-up ad (for
DiGiorno pizza) that she couldn't get rid of. I couldn't get rid of
it either so I closed and reopened Safari. The ad was gone, but now
when the green button at top left is clicked, the Safari window
resizes and moves almost off of the bottom of the screen on the left
side. Clicking the button again moves the screen, not resized, to
the upper left of the screen. Further clicking just bounces the
window between these two locations.

Closing and reopening Safari and restarting the computer don't
change this behavior. If the window is resized, clicking the green
button causes the above behavior to repeat.

It may be that this behavior began before the problem ad appeared in
Safari, but she doesn't think so.

All other windows maximize and return as expected.

Before I file a bug report I thought I'd ask if anyone here knows
what's going on.

Before filing a bug report, the first logical thing to do would
be to provide a URL so that people here could see if they can
reproduce the problem.

Why aren't you using Safari Adblocker?:

Slightly tangential, but this, essentially, is what the Zoom (green)
button is supposed to do: cycle the window size and position between two
known states (the 'standard state' and the 'user state', both of which
you can change). It's not a 'maximize' button.

The fact that some apps treat it as a 'maximize' button is usually
either a) due to the fact that those apps pre-set the user state to be
'full screen', or b) that those apps incorrectly over-ride the intended
behaviour of the Zoom button.

It's a maximize button in both Apple Mail and iPhoto. There was a
recent thread here complaining because it doesn't maximize iTunes.
