Kelly: The light is affected by gravity. Androcles: Don't know. (1) maybe the apparatus is bent by gravity. Attach weights to bend it more. (2) maybe the air is denser in the lower part of the apparatus, refracting the light. Perform in vacuum. Maybe gravity affects light. Where are the Moon and Sun (tides) when the shifts are at maximum and minimum?
