From: Albion on 5 Jan 2009 13:20 A couple of weeks ago we had a catastrophic power failure and unfortunately I hadn't gotten the new UPS software up and running. My newly installed copy of Exchange 2007 seems to be having problems. It's running on Server 2008 x64. I am getting ESE events 9518,454,492,413, and 485 to start out with, but I am sure my problem is with a single file. When I check the properties on the E01tmp.log file in the second storage group (a file pointed toward in most of the events above) it shows an unknown owner. When I try to take ownership as administrator I get access denied. Because of this ACL problem with the file I am not able to mount my Second Storage Group. I am assuming that it was being accessed by something, AV or Backup at the time of the power failure and its ACL became corrupted. First off, can I delete this file? The storage group is dismounted if that makes a difference. Secondly, does anyone know how I can delete this file? Anything I try on it leads to access denied. I've tried rebooting, stopping Exchange services, etc... Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I kept getting as error during the backup. "Final Error: 0xe000ff02 - One or more of the databases for this storage group are currently dismounted. This backup is incomplete. Make sure that all the databases are mounted, and then resubmit the backup job." So I looked at Exchange Server Manager and I saw that the Second Storage Group was dismounted. At that point I attempted to manually mount it (Right Click -> Mount Database). After a while of waiting I received this error from Exchange "Error: Exchange is unable to mount the database that you specified. Specified database "DATHOMIR\Second Storage Group\Public Folder Database; Error code: MapiExceptionCallFailed: Unable to mount Database (hr=0x80004005, ec=-1032)" When I looked in the event Log right after the attempted mount I see these errors Event ID 9518:ESE "Error 0xfffffbf8 starting Storage Group /DC=domain/ DC=stanek/CN=Configuration/CN=Services/CN=Microsoft Exchange/CN=Stanek Tool Corp/CN=Administrative Croups/CN=Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT)/CD=Servers/CD=DATHOMIR/CN=InformationStore/CN=Second Storage Group on the Microsoft Exchange Information Store., Storage Group - Initialization of Jet failed." Event ID 454:ESE "MSExchangeIS (2128) Second Storage Group: Database recovery/restore failed with exception error -1032." Event ID 492:ESE "MSExchangeIS (2128) Second Storage Group: the logfile sequence in "C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\Mailbox \Second Storage Group\" has been halted due to a fatal error. No further updates are possible for the databases that use this logfile sequence. Please correct the problem and restart or restore from backup." Event ID 413:ESE "MSExchangeIS (2128) Second Storage Group: Unable to create a new logfile because the database cannot write to the log drive. The drive may be read-only, out of disk space, misconfigured, or corrupted. Error -1032" Event ID 485:ESE "MSExchangeIS (2128) Second Storage Group: An attempt to delete the file "C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\Mailbox \Second Storage Group\E01tmp.log" failed with system error 5 (0x00000005): "Access is denied.". The delete file operation will fail with error -1032 (0xfffffbf8)." The database tries to recover but since it can't delete or write to the E01tmp.log file it fails on the second storage group. I've tried to delete/rename/move the file manually but I keep getting access denied. When looking at the permissions I see that the Ownership of the file is Unknown. When I attempt to take ownership as Administrator I also get access denied. I've tried rebooting the server and trying but I get the same results. Thanks for the response.
