Thanks Russ. Unfortunatly I turned off my last 2003 server a little while
ago, and would rather not take a step back to older technology (I'd rather
go *nix). But yes, I do believe there was an NNTP service in 2003.

Sadly fewer ISPs are offering NNTP and Microsoft abandoning NNTP support
doesn't help, but I think NNPT will be around and active for a long time
yet.

Ideally I'd like to support both. Certainly a forum might be more attractive
to some, but comes a poor second compared to a newsgroup (IMHO).

PhpBB does seem to be the most popular forum software. If I go that route
(i.e. just a forum with no NNTP) then PhpBB will probably be what I use.

Thank you for the offer, but hosting is one of the few things which won't be
an issue.

IMO PHPBB is probably the easiest to set up (I've set them up even the
manual way.)

There are plugins that you can put in that someone has to enter a specific
WORD to register an account etc.
this way BOTS don't register them self and spam..

Best of luck
Russ

We abandoned PHPBB last year because, even after massive code changes,
the bots could still register.

Brian does state that he has SBS2008, which does *not* have an NNTP
service.
