Around 4:45, Beaumont police were called to by the department store in reference to a robbery with a suspect in custody. Officers learned that a JC Penney loss prevention officer followed two women and a man outside the store who were believed to be shoplifting. Once outside the store, the officer detained one of the women. The man with her attacked the officer attempting to free the woman, according to Beaumont police. During the scuffle, the woman bit the officer. The officer also received other minor injuries. The man and the other woman fled the mall area before police arrived. The woman, identified as 17-year-old Shanika Rochelle Sharrod, was booked into the Jefferson County Jail charged with robbery. Her bond has not been set.
