From: T i m on 15 Feb 2010 06:41 Hi All, I'm trying to get my Mac Mini to Wake On Lan. I can send a Magic Packet to it via several sources and everything else wakes up ok when I send one to them. The default OS is XP and I have checked all the settings in that for WOL are correct. I can't see anything in the Bootcamp panel (under XP). Should this be possible and if so where do I need to set / look please? Cheers, T i m

Works fine for me (on a Mini) under OS X. I enabled it in the System Prefs somewhere. So under XP's equivalent would be the place. Occasionally it needs more than one packet to wake up (but that's the same for all of us). -- Tim "That the freedom of speech and debates or proceedings in Parliament ought not to be impeached or questioned in any court or place out of Parliament" Bill of Rights 1689

Not quite what I'd expect (although I'm not sure I expected anything per-se). > So under XP's equivalent would be the place. Ok, I'll look now. >Occasionally it needs more than one packet to wake up (but that's the >same for all of us). Whilst I've had that from the net (possibly down to the router not 'broadcasting' WOL packets ?) it seem to be both instant and predictable to all the other PC's here. I can send a WOL from the Router, the WHS console or 3rd party utils and anything that will respond seems to first time (so far anyway). Right, reboot time .. Cheers, T i m

On XP it's the network card properties and on 10.5 the nearest I can find is in the Energy saving pref (Under allow Administrator to do summat .. <forgotten>)? >Occasionally it needs more than one packet to wake up (but that's the >same for all of us). I tried several from several sources and nowt (not even into OSX). Now it looks like I might have a spare Intel Atom powered Mobo (and WOL 'just works' on that) the Mini's days may be even further numbered. ;-( Cheers, T i m

You've ticked "Wake for Ethernet network administrator access" ?? Under "Options" in the Energy Saver pref. I wonder if the sender has to be a network admin or something. Hmmm. Anyway I use WakeOnLan (http://www.readpixel.com/wakeonlan/) to wake up one Mini from the other. Note, I'm talking about waking from sleep, not starting from power-off (although I think that's possible too). -- Tim "That the freedom of speech and debates or proceedings in Parliament ought not to be impeached or questioned in any court or place out of Parliament" Bill of Rights 1689 |
