Well torrents are easier to setup tracking and seeders than 'formal'
mirror sites, and slackware.com don't keep the mirror list up to date,
so one needs to explore local mirror sites.

Well that's good, nearly there.

I'm in the land downunder, a good site for me may not be a good site
for you. Besides, I'm on a slow connection, takes me about 40 hours
to download a DVD iso image. I rarely do torrents.

Rsync is more suited to downloading a bunch of files, ftp with resume
is better for large, single files (I use wget for files from http or
ftp).

Bittorrent also good for large files as it chops them up for transfer
in pieces -- providing your ISP is torrent friendly, ISPs over here
seem to think all torrents infringe copyright.

Keeping a local mirror of the -current file trees means I have no
problem getting the 'new' .iso when a release is out -- I already
have it here :) Lately I'm spending more time with soldering iron
than computers, so I haven't installed slack-13 on other boxes here
yet.

For example,
rsync://elektroni.phys.tut.fi/slackware/slackware64-13.0-iso/slackware64-13.0-install-dvd.iso

I am looking for 3rd party packages such as wine or virtualbox
