From: TaliesinSoft on 3 Apr 2010 10:52 Since upgrading to Snow Leopard 10.6.3 I've been experiencing what I've dubbed "instabilities". On a number of occasions the system completely freezes and quite often when this happens the screen goes completely black. The only option seems to be a hard restart. Frequently I will see visual oddities such as flashing on parts of the screen or distorted images. I'm curious as to if others are experiencing the same. -- James Leo Ryan --- Austin, Texas --- taliesinsoft(a)me.com

Hmm, that's unfortunate. Nothing of the sort is happening here on my Mac Pro. Have you taken a gander at the system log? -- Send responses to the relevant news group rather than email to me. I have been occasionally getting the beach ball of death in Safari which takes over a minute to clear. Have a newer MacBook with maxed out RAM. I have to restart when this starts happening. Didn't happen in 10.6.2. I would guess that it is some sort of memory leak but I am no expert, to say the least, in OS X. Haven't added any new software since I moved up to 10.6.3. -- During times of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act. George Orwell

I'm not having any issues with 10.6.3 at all. Try creating another user and using it for awhile with that user to see if it is something in your user stuff causing that. If it still does it, sounds like maybe a ram issue or some such. -- Lloyd

My wife complained yesterday that Safari has been locking up excessively lately on her MacBook Pro. So I took a look at her system log and found tons of these messages in it: Apr 2 03:34:21 macbookpro Safari[16210]: Periodic CFURLCache Insert stats (iters: 360) - Tx time:0.063071, # of Inserts: 3, # of bytes written: 55254, Did shrink: NO, Size of cache-file: 182552576, Num of Failures: 1 Apr 2 03:41:00 macbookpro Safari[16210]: INSERT-HANG-DETECTED: Tx time:3.638909, # of Inserts: 2, # of bytes written: 37202, Did shrink: YES A Google search later, and I arrived at the following page that describes how to fix the problem. After deleting the cache files mentioned on that page, Safari has been running much better so far: <http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20091113081849404> -- Send responses to the relevant news group rather than email to me.
