It's very strange! What codecs have you got installed? QT may be getting
confused.

No idea how to even tell that... :-)

I have had this computer for 4 or 5 years now. A dual core Mac Pro.
Snow Leopard was an upgrade, as was required by the cheapie price.

You are right that there might be some older codec on my system that is
not SL compatible and is interfering somehow sometime....

So.... what magic incantation do I perform to see what codecs QT thinks
it has available to it?

Look in Library/Quicktime, and in YourName/Library/Quicktime. There's
also System/Library/Quicktime which you shouldn't mess with but where
the MPEG4 component should be.

I haven't done much with SL yet, I'll boot it up tomorrow and see how
well QT works. I don't like the new player much, though.

The ~/library/Quicktime folder does not exist.

The /library/Quicktime has

- AppleIntermediateCodec.component
- AppleMPEG2Codec.component

and nothing else.

Mine has three Flip4Mac components, one Perian, and an
AC3MovieImport.component, all of which are May 09 or later.
So, just install the first two- I don't know where the AC3 came from or
what it does.
