installing rosetta is no big deal. it's tiny and you never know when
you might need it again.

in any event, only the original office 2008 dvds require it. the issue
has been fixed.

here's more info and how to patch it:

Users with the original DVDs will need Rosetta to launch the Microsoft
AutoUpdater (MAU) to update. After that Rosetta is not required for
Office 2008. All users with the DVDs that come with 12.1.0 don't have
this issue.

So you're saying removing PPC code was not the point of 10.6? What,
then, was -- in your view? You sure like to be authoritative when all
we're discussing is an opinion.

Nope? If an app is universal, should 10.6 care if it has PPC code that
is not executed? I would think that the PPC code of a universal
binary might as well be empty sectors on an Intel disk. (another
opinion, btw).

Lastly, exactly what benefits did you derive from 2008 over 2004
then? Me none. And while I'm not a big user, I have been using Word
& Excel for over 20 years. Maybe it's not important to you but I'm
looking for the spinning beach ball to become a distant memory at some
point. Apple seems to never make this a priority.

This doesn't say anything I didn't already know.

Thanks. This is what I needed to know. Have a great weekend.

Listing an Intel Mac in system requirements implies it is written for Intel
Listing Mac OS X 10.4.9 or later confirms it is universal, since Snow
Leopard does not install Rosetta.

In fact, all applications in M$ Office 2008 are universal applications.
They all run on Snow Leopard without Rosetta installed.

Less work for them.
