From: FX on 8 Dec 2009 06:26 I've a solaris sparc binary but only x86 machine. I've both windows and Solaris x86 running. Is there a way run SPARC binaries on any both of these platforms (Visualization included) As far as I know Virtualbox won't let me do that.

Hi, The Transitive Corporation released a Solaris/Sparc to Solaris/x86-64 in 2007 but they were purchased by IBM in 2009. Google search "QuickTransit for Solaris/SPARC-to-Solaris/x86-64" If you contact IBM they may supply the product. If not contact the vendor and ask for a Solaris x86 binary, the code should just re-compile. However, third party libraries might be a problem.

QEMU has a SPARC emulator, but as far as I know, it doesn't actually boot Solaris due a variety of reasons. That may have been rectified by now. Otherwise, most people keep a SPARC machine around for binaries they need to run from time to time and just remote in. The older ones are pretty cheap of course.

In order to run SPARC binaries on a virtual machine, you would have to create a virtual SPARC machine! I won't say it can't be done but I have difficulty imagining a situation that would justify it. SPARC hardware should be readily available. Try e-Bay. I bought three Ultra 10s on e-Bay a few years ago. They have served me well. They are a little (a lot) old these days and you might want to look for something like a Sun Blade 100, Blade 150, . . . which offer somewhat greater speed and maybe even greater availability.
