From: Bob Donald on 1 Mar 2010 11:46 I used this very page when agonizing over whether to get the 860, 920 or q9550 when building this system 2 weeks ago. I ruled out the 920 when I saw the scores compared to the price increase on the mobo alone. Funny that the 920 is priced lower than the 860 now. The 860 vs q9550 was a bit more of a fight price wise, but the $$$ were so negligble that it was a no brainer to spend the extra 30 or so bux and go with the latest technology <actually cost less than the q9550 cuz the board was on clearance>. If I could have used my old memory I probably would have gone the q9550 route, but I wanted 8 gigs and all I had laying around were 1 gig ddr 2, so memory price was neck in neck also. Speaking of that, which memory did you go with? I went with this : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145285&cm_re=corsair_ddr_3_1600-_-20-145-285-_-Product Microcenter had a $30 rebate at the time, so again, no real price difference between the 860 or q9550 system comparison. I dont have the system up and running ATM <building 2 other systems so the kvm is tied up> but the w7 score was 7.6 on mem., proc was 7.9, HDD was 6.1 with a wd 500, vid was gaming 5.1 and business 5.5 with a geforce 210. The majority of people overclock the 920 right off the bat thirty to forty percent on air. Its architecture was made for this. Also the futuristic motherboards for them will support the next generation of 6 core CPUs (Gulftown) with 12 cores via hyperthreading.

Well, you get the idea. ;) Totally. I look forward to hearing about your new computer in Reaper. When do you get it? Thursday? Do you have a power supply and case to put it in? Are you going to run Win764 on it? Inquiring minds want to know this stuff Mr. Brew Ha ha. Me thinks of Adrian Belew just now. Will you drink a fresh brew before you test the waters since I got your drift earlier??? |
