For some reason make would fail if I tried to leave it compuiling for
all. So I did hda-intel and usb-audio. I have sound working for both.
alsaconf still reports no cards to probe. alsamixer only shows the
internal card. kmix however shows both cards and I can adjust volume.
just a weird thing. Once again thanks Clemens for your help.

The alsamixer in 13.1 should be a recent enough version to allow
selecting the card (with F6).
