I don't do ripples much but have tried a variety of
programs/plugins/filters for the effect just because there are times
when it can be really useful. This is the best I've seen to date, both
for the variety of effects and the ability to fine tune them, and having
three different yet standard output options.

I think that a person who was willing to spend a few hours really
getting to know how to use it (and that would likely be a person who had
lots of use for this effect) could produce some pretty effective
output. I was pretty pleased with my little thing, particularly given
the short time I spent with the program.

I don't remember what I did, but do remember I kept changing
transparency and other stuff 'cause I wanted the water to look close to
the same color as the original image, and I wanted the ripples to be
small like they are in the original image. I do remember that you click
the little yellow arrow to see the result of your settings, and then you
can click anywhere else (or maybe almost anywhere else) to return to the
original so that you can fine tune settings and then use the arrow to
preview again. You don't have to save, etc., between attempts.

Sorry I can't give you the recipe I used 'cause it was some time ago.
Besides, I'm sure you'll enjoy figuring out the variables for yourself.
Have fun!

P.S. I guess I'll have to buy the scotch myself. Likely the best
approach, because some postal worker would likely ensure that I'd only
get an empty bottle if it was sent by post.

Regards,

JoeB

That's one of the niceties isn't. That preview-option. I did a friendly
waterfall
taking tiny steps towards the way I wanted it to look and have come closer
to a realistic effect than ever before. Adding some sound made it look even
better. This one came so close to my perception of "usable" that I got
convinced that with this toy and some practice realistic movement has become
achievable.

I'm sorry if I gave the impression that I was bluntly asking for the recipe.
After having been asked what kind of ripples I had in mind I merely jumped
to the opportunity to point in your direction when you pasted that site.

I wouldn't have bailed out hadn't there been this treshold :-)))
But later tonight, while toying and fiddling, I'll raise a glass and say:
here's to you JoeB!!
