A few years ago I ditched BT altogether and got the cheapest of their international calls packages which threw in free internet as well. (That exact package is no longer available to new customers.) I don't use their email (other than to receive the odd message from them) and I don't have webspace with them - don't even know if they offer it. Don't use their router either - I had my own so asked them not to bother sending one. Service has been very reliable and the original 2mbps has gone up to a token 8 - actually 6.5ish - automagically. I don't do big downloads or torrents so have no idea if they cap or packet-shape. Cisco VPN to work is fine. The only recent gripe I have is that the off-peak evening time recently went from 6pm to 7pm which is a bit inconvenient for me but probably doesn't make a lot of difference for most people. -- Bruce Horrocks Surrey England (bruce at scorecrow dot com)

I use MobileMe and Gmail myself, and find the extra cost to be worthwhile for me. > Service has been very reliable and the original 2mbps has gone up to a > token 8 - actually 6.5ish - automagically. Righto, similar to me now then, I get about 6.5Mbps most of the time, and the only big downloads I do are the occasional update for the OS, or something like OpenOffice. The only thing that we do use a lot is iPlayer, so as long as that works Ok, I'll be happy (it didn't work at all with Virgin broadband). > The only recent gripe I have is that the off-peak evening time recently > went from 6pm to 7pm which is a bit inconvenient for me but probably > doesn't make a lot of difference for most people. The PlusNet package I have is for no shaping at all, but I do get a bandwidth limit of 20GB, which is only counted between 8am and midnight. Reading Talk Talk's blurb, their shaping only runs from 3pm to midnight, which suits me, and they have no limit. Cheers. -- Andy Hewitt <http://web.me.com/andrewhewitt1/>

BT recently chnged their off-peak time to 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., and the other companies seem to have followed. > > The PlusNet package I have is for no shaping at all, but I do get a > bandwidth limit of 20GB, which is only counted between 8am and midnight. > Reading Talk Talk's blurb, their shaping only runs from 3pm to midnight, > which suits me, and they have no limit. My TalkTalk package only provides 40 Gb a month, but that's plenty for me. -- <http://www.decohen.com> Send e-mail to the Reply-To address. Mail to the From address is never read.

Ah, I misread that, and didn't spot it was regarding telephone. I'm on the anytime bundle, so that bit doesn't matter to me. Yes, I think PlusNet went to 7pm as well, although they are owned by BT, so that's hardly a surprise. -- Andy Hewitt <http://web.me.com/andrewhewitt1/>
