From: Automutt on 19 May 2010 10:26 The Wandjina and the Rainbow Serpent. The Dazed Dreaming The Wandjina and the Rainbow Serpent. Along time ago, when the dreaming was still new and the land was being beautified, The Rainbow Serpent came before the mountain of the Wandjina and said, " I can be the Wandjina, I can bring the people together, I can bring about the gathering". This made the Wandjina angry and he new that the time was not right for the gathering. He was upset that The Rainbow Serpent had falsely reasoned against him and was worried that the Serpent like unto the seraph was planning to do what he himself had always planned and had always wanted to do. He thought for a long time and dreamed about what could be done, The Serpent had many friends and many followers in different tribes, this worried the Wandjina, and the false reasoning troubled him deeply. He decided to remove the wings from the Fiery Rainbow Serpent Seraph and throw him off the mountain so that he would have to climb all the way back up, and this would take him some time. The Wandjina didn't want to hurt him as he was so good at bringing the people together for the celebrations and the ceremonies, so removing his wings and cooling his fire was the only way to slow him down. The Wandjina often painted with no mouth decided to remain quiet and let his friends and followers talk for him, as this too would slow down the actions of The Rainbow Serpent and his friends and followers. The Wandjina was so old and had seen so much that often less is more he reasoned. He decided he would wait for his old friend The Rainbow Serpent to climb back up the Mountain and would allow much dreaming, both good and bad, to take place so that there was more for The Rainbow Serpent and his friends and followers to reason with and think about and learn from, so that The Wandjina would not have to impose or enforce his own dreaming or reason among the people.
