From: Luis Porras on 8 Sep 2006 13:38 Hi, How can I repair a .mpp file with this error: "The operation cannot be completed because the source file contains invalid project data or the total number of rows would exceed the limit of 1,048,000 rows in a project" It looks like it has a circular reference, but I can't open it!!! Thanks! ~Luis
From: "Rod Gill" rod AT project-systems DOT co DOT on 8 Sep 2006 16:25 There's not much you can do if a .mpp file can't be opened. There's plenty once it is open! Can you try opening with another PC? Are there any macros in the file? Resource pool or master project connections? -- Rod Gill Project MVP Visit www.msproject-systems.com for Project Companion Tools and more "Luis Porras" <luis.porras(a)gmail.com> wrote in message news:OLSHr220GHA.3900(a)TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl... > Hi, > > How can I repair a .mpp file with this error: > > "The operation cannot be completed because the source file contains > invalid > project data or the total number of rows would exceed the limit of > 1,048,000 > rows in a project" > > It looks like it has a circular reference, but I can't open it!!! > > Thanks! > > ~Luis > > >
From: Luis Porras on 8 Sep 2006 16:31 I tried from another PC... same error Yes, the project has macros and resource pool connections... I tried opening an old version of the same file and I have no errors from it... With Project active but no projects open, try turning off automatic calculation (Tools/Options/Calculation tab). You may get lucky and then be able to open the file. If you can, first look for links on summary lines since they are the most prominent cause for circular relationships. Remove links and summary lines and then turn calculation back on. If that solves the problem, you might be OK. If that doesn't solve the problem, follow the steps in FAQ 43 - File Bloat? Might be corruption, which you can find on our MVP website at: http://project.mvps.org/faqs.htm. If none of the above works, you might try sorting by Unique ID. Sometimes an inadvertent keystroke can create a rogue task that is way out in left field. If there is a blank task name for the highest Unique ID, then delete that task and see if that helps. Hope this helps. Let us know how things work out. John Project MVP

John, I already tried with turning off the automatic calculation with no luck... Also, I followed the instructions in the website (Faq.43) but the project saves an empty project db... ~Luis "John" <mjensen(a)theriver.com> wrote in message news:mjensen-BC867E.13332208092006(a)msnews.microsoft.com... > In article <OLSHr220GHA.3900(a)TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl>, > "Luis Porras" <luis.porras(a)gmail.com> wrote: > > > Hi, > > > > How can I repair a .mpp file with this error: > > > > "The operation cannot be completed because the source file contains invalid > > project data or the total number of rows would exceed the limit of 1,048,000 > > rows in a project" > > > > It looks like it has a circular reference, but I can't open it!!! > > > > Thanks! > > > > ~Luis > > Luis, > If you can't even open the file you may be out of luck.
