Get a copy of VueScan (from www.hamrick.com). Works with an
astonishing variety of scanners - and much better than the usual 'free'
scan software that comes scanners.

Software is regularly updated, and it is worth getting the 'pro'
license to get lifetime updates for free.

But even the pro license is cheap.

Then you can use almost any old scanner you can get and be sure it will
work etc.

I've got an Epson V350 perfection. Works pretty well.
