Does anyone here have that running on Slackware? I'm wondering where
exactly to put the extra line for the resume function. Any input
appreciated.

?? I don't know what you're asking for here...

I used to run TuxOnIce, but most of its features have been
incorporated into the standard kernels for some time now.
I find suspend/resume and hibernate work fine using the
KDE (3.5.10) klaptop widget with the kernels from slack
12.2 onward. To run TuxOnIce, you'll have to patch and
rebuild the kernel, which can be a nuisance if you're
trying to stay -current.

My experience here is with a Dell D820 laptop (running -current).

Wow! KDE can actually do, with a special 'widget', what the
shell naturally and easily does.

Linux runners have been performing these operations with just
the shell for maybe a decade.

I just put slrn here into suspend/hibernate mode merely by
pressing Ctrl-z (^Z). I can bring it life by entering "fg".
And obviously just did.

Don't need no stinking Windoze-weenie GDE here.

I don't mind patching the kernel, but resuming from a file would be nice
(never needed a swap partition on this machine, so it doesn't have one).
The primary problem, however, is that the machine will freeze up a
couple of seconds or maybe a minute after coming up from suspend and
thus I *hope* TuxOnIce would fix that.

Sorry, you forgot to phrase your followup in the form of a haiku.

Shell needs no widget
Runners don't use KDE:
Too much like Windows

300 points for me! YES!
