I'm looking to fit a USB2 PCI card in my G4MDD, my iPod's suddenly started
moaning at me about it!. Any reccomendations as to what card to get/avoid?

I bought a 5-port one for my MDD from PC World. I'm _fairly_ sure it was a
Belkin. Seemed to work fine. Sorry I can't be more specific with the model
number.

On the other hand, for my MDD I bought one from PCWorld. And I am fairly
sure mine was a belkin too!

I got a generic one (using a standard OHCI/EHCI chipset) and it worked,
apart from one issue: if certain devices are plugged into the card when
my PowerMac G4 (QuickSilver 2002) goes to sleep, the computer locks up
and won't wake up again.

I only use the USB card occasionally (the PowerMac is a secondary
computer) so this didn't bother me enough to chase up whether there are
"more compatible" cards that correctly handle sleep.

It might also depend on the system version. I'm running 10.4.11
(deliberately left this computer on 10.4 for testing purposes and
compatibility with occasionally used old software).

I haven't tested it enough to establish exactly which devices cause
this, but it may be related to USB 2.0 high speed devices: it happened
with a hub and card reader in my Dell monitor, and with a USB storage
device, but not with an Apple Pro Mouse.

If that's the same Belkin card I got, it caused kernel panics in my MDD
G4 running 10.4.11.

<shrug>

I have no recommendation and can't look up which particular card I got,
exactly.
