It's optional. I'm guessing he means he didn't buy iLife '09 because he doesn't want face recognition or any other new features enough to feel like spending the money. -- My latest dance performance <http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_9pudbFisE> Mac and geek T-shirts & gifts <http://designsbymike.net/shop/mac.cgi> Prius shirts/bumper stickers <http://designsbymike.net/shop/prius.cgi>

However, it doesn't take much of the CPU. iPhoto is doing a Faces scan right now, in fact, and it's only taking about 7.5% CPU. It's just not that big of a deal. Steve

Actually I could get it free through my university, but remember reading that face recognition can't be turned off and is a great CPU hog. See, for example, the long discussion at http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1882900&tstart=75 Has this now changed, and can face recognition be turned off, or at least made to run only once during an upgrade to '09? The people in the discussion group at the link above could only come up with locking faces.db files. Are there other new features that might make the upgrade worthwhile? Thanks for your comments. Regards, Ned in Zurich

I found that the other new feature of 09 was the addition of being able to upload your photos directly to facebook. Thats my most used feature. |
